A number of the SilverFit exercises are very useful in a fall prevention program. Research in collaboration with the Avans University shows that the exercise "The Mole" and "Flower Garden" have a number of characteristics that make them especially useful:
- They stimulate the player to continuously shift balance
- They train lateral and backwards step better than traditional exercises
- They offer a dynamic, unpredictable exteroceptive cues
- They offer a coginitive/physical dual task
- They make the patient focus on the game. In tradtional exercises, patients look at their legs or feet, which makes the movement less natural.
All in all, patients report that the exercises are much more intense and challenging than traditional exercises. In addition, participants find the games fun and motivating: "playing these games makes this training a very special experience".
