Scientific studies show that stroke survivors should train 6 hours or more per week for a prolonged period of time. This amount of exercise is rarely provided, especially for elderly people. However, studies show that more exercise significantly improves functional outcomes: it will help the patient relearn basic skills such as dressing and washing him- or herself. There are a number of exercises that are generally used for stroke survivors. Many of these exercises are repetitive in nature and require the constant full attention of a therapist: training upper body stability; training sit to stand; training endurance; gait training, or if this has become impossible, wheelchair training; fall prevention; and upper extremity exercises. The SilverFit system allows patients to train in a group or independently without continuous supervision by the therapist. As the therapist no longer has to provide motivation, he/she is free to focus on the patients medical progress. This allows for better outcomes with the same amount of therapist time and effort. |
