Virtual rehabilitation

Evidence

Modern physiotherapy practice should be evidence-based: the therapist follows protocols that have been evaluated by scientific clinical trials. SilverFit develops exercises based on this principle wherever possible by incoporating exercises and functional outcome measures that have been validated.

For example, sit-stand transfer is an exercise that is commonly prescribed. Specifically, it is prescribed by the Dutch Royal Society for Physiotherapy in its Stroke guidelines, based on meta-analysis of ransomized controlled trials (RCT's). Therefore, the SilverFit team has worked to create exercises that train the sit-stand movement, and to incorporate standardized tests that can measure the progress of the patient in this respect.

The exercise performed using the computer game is identical to the tradional sit-stand transfer. As the computer game takes over the task of motivating the patient, the therapist is freed to spend time on qualitative, in depth feedback, which of course requires skills the computer cannot take over.

SilverFit is working with universities and clinics all over the world to research in detail how therapists and patients react to virtual rehabilitation. More on this topic in the section on scientific research.
