What is the SilverFit?

The SilverFit is a system for virtual rehabilitation. It has been developed for people who have to exercise regularly as part of a rehabilitation program. We designed the system specifically for elderly users. To remain healthy and regain function, elderly people in rehabilitation have to exercise often. Unfortunately, this can be repetitive and boring. As a result, most people train only when under direct and continuous supervision of a therapist.

SilverFit has incorporated the most important exercises that train gross motor movements into computer games. The SilverFit has a 3D camera that can trace the movements of 1-4 people. This makes it possible to train without the need for any controller, keyboard, or mouse. You sit or stand in front of the screen and the exercise starts.

The exercises have been based on scientific evidence as condensed in the guidelines of the Royal Dutch Physiotherapy Association, and on exercises used in clinical practice. An important aspect of the exercises is that the therapist can set the level to suit the patient. The entry level can be set very, very low so that anyone who can sit on a chair can participate.

The exercises, now transformed into computer games, are much more stimulating than traditional exercises. This strongly motivates the patient and enables them to train longer and do things they did not believe they were capable of. In addition, the participant is focused on the game instead of on the required movement. This leads to a more natural, less conscious execution of the exercises.
